John Rowe aged 55 Farmer b. Cornwall.
Elizabeth Rowe aged 50 b. Cornwall
John Rowe aged 20 b. Cornwall
Elizabeth Rowe aged 15 b. Cornwall
Phillip Rowe aged 15 b. Cornwall
Cathrine Rowe aged 12 b. Cornwall
Hanibal Rowe aged 8 b. Cornwall
William Rowe aged 6 b. Cornwall
Mary Rowe aged 4 b. Cornwall.
The family was residing at:  Trevool, Crowan, Helston, Cornwall, England.

MAR:  First marriage:  COR0862:  Philip Rowe of full age, of Crowan, bachelor, farmer, father John Rowe farmer, to Mary Symons of full age, of Crowan, spinster, father Thomas Symons merchant.  Philip made his mark and Mary signed the register.  The witnesses were Thomas Symons and John Rowe [could be the bride and groom's fathers - or possibly brothers?].

RES:  Walter Meyer zu Erpen could not locate Philip Rowe (chr. 1826 at Crowan) in the 1851 census of England and Wales.  In COR0862, Jeannette Merritt reported that she could not find Philip and Mary Rowe in the 1851 census return, nor the christenings of any children from that marriage.

NOT:  In COR0862 (numbering corrected in COR0877), Jeannette Merritt shared this information from research online in Ancestry:  New South Wales, Australia, Assisted Immigrant Passenger Lists 1828-1896.  List of Immigrants per ship Hope.  Arrived on the 21st July 1849.  Family No. 28.
Rowe.  Phillip aged 23, married, Farm labourer, Native place and County: Crayon [should read Crowan], Cornwall; Religion:  Church of England; Read or write:  read.
Rowe.  Mary aged 24, married, (wife), Native place and County: Crayon [should read Crowan], Cornwall; Religion:  Church of England; Read or write:  both.
Jeannette explained that "Crowan" could sound like "Crayon" when spoken by a Cornishman.  No children were travelling with Phillip and Mary.  Jeannette continued:  "The information that Philip could read but not write would tie in with him making his mark in the marriage register.  I did not realise that anyone who could read would not be able to write but it must be so, as of the eight families shown on this sheet five individuals could read but not write."

MAR:  Second marriage:  CHT0133 shows that Philip Rowe married Jane Freeman in 1855, in Victoria, Australia; that chart does not show Philip Rowe's marriage to Mary Symons.  Except where otherwise indicated, all name, date and place data relating to the descendants of this couple is from the "Outline Descendant Report for Philip Orchard" that was compiled and researched by Geoffrey Hall and included in the online "Orchard-Rowe-Kitto" posting by Ken Stewart and Ernie Orchard (last updated 12 October 2004).  The code assigned to that chart by Walter Meyer zu Erpen is CHT0133. Based upon the correction discussed with Geoffrey Hall in COR0839, the descendants of Philip Rowe and Jane Freeman are NOT descended from Philip Orchard.

DTH:  In COR0839, Geoffrey Hall wrote:  "That Philip [the one who married Jane Freeman], and Jane, died in Carlton North in 1895 and Jane in 1896."  In a subsequent reply to that exchange, Geoffrey Hall reported that "Philip's death record shows age 67 and parents' names John and Elizabeth Unknown.  On a quick look, it seems this is most likely the Philip Rowe baptised 1826 in Crowan."

Mary Symons

CHR:  COR0862.  COR0871:  Listed as Mary Symons, daughter of Thomas and Mary of Crowan, gardener.

DTH:  In COR0839, Geoff Hall reported the death of a Mary Rowe in Victoria, Australia, in 1852, but without further details.  Walter Meyer zu Erpen reviewed that index entry and was able to see that the death relates to a two-year old girl.

Jane Freeman

MAR:  CHT0133 shows that Philip Rowe married Jane Freeman in 1855, in Victoria, Australia; that chart does not show Philip Rowe's marriage to Mary Symons.

DTH:  In COR0839, Geoffrey Hall wrote:  "That Philip [the one who married Jane Freeman], and Jane, died in Carlton North in 1895 and Jane in 1896. "
