BUR:  OBIT0053 indicates that Percy was cremated.  Anne Welton thinks that his ashes may have been buried in Ross Bay Cemetery.

Edith Jane Atkins

BIR:  Anne Welton presumably provided the original 1884 year of birth.  However, a photo in Pat Holden's possession indicates that Edith was aged 6 on 2 March 1893 and that her siblings Audrey and Bertie were aged 5 and 3 respectively.  This would seem to indicate that Edith was more likely born about 1886, which would make her about the same age as Percy.  Online death certificate confirms date and provides place of birth, indicating that Edith Jane Atkins had resided in Victoria for 59 years, suggesting that she and her family must have come to Victoria about 1888.

MAR:  The Vital Events Marriage Index on the BC Archives website provided Edith's middle name.

DTH:  Anne Welton provided original date of death (8 December 1946), which the Vital Events Death Index on the BC Archives website corrects to 1947, aged 61, which corroborates the 1886 birthyear.  OBIT not found:  Provincial Library index (1900-1970).  Online death certificate reveals that Edith Atkins, a housewife, died from a fracture of the skull, from a fall from a third-story window, that was determined in the coroner's inquest to be suicide.  The informant was her husband, Henry Percival Rutter, 1521 Elford Street, Victoria.

BUR:  Anne Welton said that Edith's burial service was Anglican.  Online death certificate provides date and place of burial.

Coral Lena (Lena) Harris

BIR:  Anne Welton provided original date of birth (3 January 1888) which WJMzE corrected to 1887 based upon age 89 at death, assuming that she had passed her 89th birthday.  Online death certificate confirms date and provides place and her parents' names.

DTH:  Anne Welton and OBIT0077.  The Vital Events Death Index on the BC Archives website confirms date and provides age 89.  Online death certificate indicates that Cora Lena Rutter had a been a teacher at George Jay Elementary School.  The informant was her nephew (possibly D.F. ??), 3960 Sherwood Road, Victoria.

BUR:  Anne Welton said that Lena's funeral service was conducted by a funeral home and that Lena may have been cremated (confirmed in online death certificate; cremation by Royal Oak Crematorium).  OBIT0077 indicates that the funeral service was conducted in McCall Brothers Family Chapel, with Reverend C.T. Glauser officiating.

181. Annie Jane Rowe

BIR:  REG0013.  On 11 December 1988, Anne Welton confirmed that her mother was born on 14 March 1869, rather than 14 May as indicated by REG0013.  CEN0004.

CHR:  REG0013.  Although REG0013 covers the whole of the Camborne Wesleyan Circuit, an annotation regarding this christening would indicate that it was performed at Penponds.

MAR:  REG0023.  Annie was age 23 and residing at Penponds.

NOT:  The Bennetts family group photograph taken in front of Taquah House (no. 4), circa 1899 and annotated by Anne (Bennetts) Welton, identifies "Mother" as the woman seated on the far left.

Henry Bennetts

BIR:  ANN0004 indicates that Henry was 46 when he died which corresponds with the 1862 birth year which Anne Welton gave me.  Henry was born at "Grandma Bennetts' House."  According to Anne Welton, "Aunt Loveday's house was next door."

CHR:  Anne Welton thinks that her father may have been christened in the Parish Church at Penponds, since the Bennetts lived there and were Anglican.

MAR:  REG0003.  Henry was age 28 (sic; should be age 30).  He was a miner residing at Penponds.  His father, Henry Bennetts, also a miner, was deceased.  Witnesses:  Richard Rowe and Nannie Bennetts.

NOT:  The Bennetts family group photograph taken in front of Taquah House (no. 4), circa 1899 and annotated by Anne (Bennetts) Welton, identifies "Father" as the man standing in front of the door, on the left.

RES:  CER0003 (1905/06/09) indicates that Henry was present at the death of his father-in-law at Penponds.

DTH:  Anne Welton told WJMzE that her father died very suddenly at Penponds one Saturday morning.  He suffered from a chest complaint of some sort, which may have been caused by dust ingested while working in the gold mines in South Africa.  ANN0004 confirms that Henry, aged 46, died on a Saturday.

BUR:  MI0008 and P0181.  Name, deathplace, death date, and age 46 inscribed on gravestone, as well as "Until the day break and the shadows flee away."
